The Muslim Association of Newfoundland and Labrador would like to thank all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who formed a human shield around our mosque this Friday. This symbolic yet very powerful gesture means more than words can describe. May God bless you, our province and our country.

Taking this opportunity, we would like to extend our special thanks to all those individuals, groups and organizations who facilitated yesterday's event. By opening your parking lots, by bringing hand warmers, by facilitating the traffic, by offering snacks and so on, you turned this sad and cold day into a heartwarming one to be remembered forever. Thank you.

The Muslim Association of Newfoundland and Labrador would like to express and share its deep sorrow for the tragic loss of innocent lives at Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center last Sunday evening. We pray to Allah (swt) to grant our deceased brothers the highest ranks in the Heaven and to give fast recovery to those who are wounded.

Our prayers and thoughts are also with the victims' families who are now going through very difficult times. To help them, we will soon set up a fund to which donations can be made through our website.

We are consoled by the fact that this pain is sincerely shared across Canada, and more particularly here in Newfoundland and Labrador. We have received numerous phone calls, e-mails and letters filled with messages of support and solidarity. The entrance of our mosque has poured with flowers and cards expressing sympathy and condolences. We thank all our fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians for their outpouring of love and kindness. May peace be upon our province and our country, now and forever.
