October is Canadian Islamic History Month

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahu Wa Barakatuhu, In 2007, the Parliament of Canada proclaimed October as Canadian Islamic History Month. Since then, October is celebrated as Canadian Islamic History and Heritage Month in an increasing number of cities and provinces. As a result of MANAL's outreach and advocacy, the City of St. John's and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador have also joined these celebrations by making similar proclamations in 2019 and 2022 respectively. In addition to advocating for these proclamations, MANAL is also involved in developing a Muslim Archive at Memorial University to preserve our history for future generations. Some of the historical archival material that are located so far can be found in the following short video clip. 1.3K views · 26 reactions | A Brief History of Muslims in Newfoundland and Labrador | We are pleased present: A Brief History of Muslims in Newfoundland and Labrador. Our London Family

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahu Wa Barakatuhu.
This Thursday marks the third anniversary of an Islamophobic terrorist attack in which four members of a multi-generational Muslim family were killed as they were strolling in their London Ontario neighborhood. On June 6, 2021, the driver of a truck intentionally hit them out of his hatred against Muslims. The youngest member of the family survived with some injuries, but has been left with lifelong trauma of losing his parents, grandmother and sister.

As we remember and pray for our London family and all other victims of anti-Muslim hatred, we reiterate our commitment to stand against Islamophobia. We will continue urging fellow Canadians and politicians to work with us against this increasingly alarming problem with due seriousness and commitment.

Jazakumullahu Khairan,

MANAL Executive Committee
